Working with children, adolescents, teens, families, and parents is my passion. This passion is reflected in the personal attention I give to each and every one of my clients. The first step in change is creating a strong relationship between the client and the therapist. My ability to easily relate with and connect to children and teens provides them with a comfortable space in which they can express themselves. As a parent of two young children, I also understand the stressors that go along with parenting! The techniques I use are realistic and I work collaboratively with parents to come up with a plan that they can implement effectively based on their individual and unique needs.

I am a Licensed Child Psychologist and I work with children, adolescents, and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, general adjustment problems, adjusting/ coping with a sibling’s illness, school issues, attention and behavior problems, social skill development, as well as other difficulties. Parents also need support, coping skills, and new ideas to help them manage the difficulties their child is experiencing. My goal is to share my knowledge and experience with my clients so that they and their children can apply them successfully to improve their everyday lives.

Dr. Elise Abromson
About Me

Dr. Elise is a Child Psychologist who specializes in child, teen, and parent therapy. She works with those who have anxiety, depression, issues related to adjusting/ coping with a sibling’s illness,  parent- child communication, school difficulties, and other areas. From a young age Dr. Elise knew she wanted to work with children. Her ability to understand children and teen’s inner voices allows her to help them express their outer voices. Dr. Elise easily relates to children, providing a comfortable and safe environment that benefits them therapeutically. Even those who have had previous negative experiences with therapy find comfort with Dr. Elise. As a parent, she understands the unique needs and stressors parents face daily and works to find a realistic, effective treatment plan families can follow. Her hope is that the skills she teaches children, teens, and parents will be those they use outside the office for the rest of their lives.

Outside of the therapy office, Dr. Elise loves spending time outdoors hiking, biking, or just walking with her husband and two sons. She is an avid runner who finds great inner peace heading outside for a good run. When the weather is nice and the sun is out, you will always see Dr. Elise spending time outside!

Dr. Elise is also a mom to two rescue dogs (black Labs) and a cat. She has volunteered with Lab Rescues (including Lu’s Labs) to find forever families for these pups. She hopes to share her love of dog rescue with her sons so that they will also have a respect for and love of animals and want to help rescues in the future. Dr. Elise has also served as a Board Member for the Mental Health Association of Frederick County and is part of the Maryland Psychological Association.

Fees & Insurance

As a Licensed Child Psychologist, my professional services qualify for reimbursement through most insurance plans.

Too often, managed care companies predetermine the necessity of therapy, the types of therapy for which you are eligible, and the amount of therapy you may receive, without regard to your personal progress. I believe that the necessity of therapy, the type of therapy, and the duration of therapy you receive should, instead, be determined through a collaborative process between you and your therapist, driven by the personal progress you have made. For these reasons, I am a fee-for-service provider and do not participate in managed care plans.

I am, however, sensitive to my clients’ need for affordable therapy. Therefore, I help each of my clients, interested in insurance reimbursement, submit the proper information to their insurance company for reimbursement.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about insurance and fees.
